Chomee has allegedly received millions from the Arts and Culture department.
The musician's company Divatainment reportedly got a payment of over R2 million from the National Arts Council (NAC). The star's NAC proposal reportedly stated that the funds were meant for an online broadcasting project which never saw light of day.
Divatainment was also in the process of deregistration when it received the cash, according to Companies Intellectual Property Commission records. Daily Sun reports that their source told them Chomee bought herself a new whip as soon as the money was deposited into her bank account.
Nathi Mthethwa's spokesperson Masechaba Ndlovu told the publication that the minister was aware of the allegations and was dealing with the matter. Another source added that it was strange how companies linked directly and indirectly to 999 boss, Arthur Mafokate, received funding from the NAC. Tweeps have shared mixed reactions after reading about Chomee's millions.
In related news, Briefly.co.za reported recently that veteran Mzansi musician Chicco Twala slammed Arthur Mafokate after he reportedly shared that he's also financially struggling due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Arthur, who is a famous Kwaito musician, recently applied for the National Arts Council grant. Chicco feels that rich people like Arthur do not deserve the relief funds aimed at helping struggling Mzansi people amid the pandemic. Chicco penned a lengthy open letter to Arthur slamming him for applying for these funds. Chicco said the 999 boss' action diminishes the chances of other Mzansi artists who are really struggling to access them.
